Threatening Storms and Delivering Music
On Friday I talked to Babes in Toyland and saw parts of Slow Magic, the Dwarves and Parquet Courts, who played one of my favorite songs of theirs.
Also, I ate some great kimchee fries from the Chilantro booth under a grey sky threatening to drench us.
Tops delivered a cool romantic set that warmed the misty breezes blowing through the tent where they performed.
I ended up seeing Peaches twice, once at Auditorium Shores, where she was wearing a giant colorful standard on her back and singing with dancing vaginas, then later at Cheer Up Charlie’s. There she wore spaghetti and meatballs printed pajamas and danced with a banana from the crowd.
I talked to Sarah Jaffe sitting at a wooden picnic table in the dark at Empire Control Room, then rushed over to Cheer Up Charlie’s and caught the second half of Sailor Poon’s set.
Sailor Poon brought the rock and destroyed the room. I had a great conversation with Sailor Poon after their set.
Christeene made us all feel funny inside. She took us to the woods with a mostly naked, beared, long haired trucker and plastic masked dj to smoke menthol cigarettes.
I made it back to the Empire Control Room and caught the second half of Sarah Jaffe’s set. Afterwards, I talked to David Carriere from Tops while some guy went to work on a bike lock with a drill-saw-machine-kind-of-thing, making a huge jack hammer racket.
That was fun.
Fun Fun Fun Fest X happens November 6th, 7th and 8th at Auditorium Shores in Austin, TX.
